From a House to a Community

Our Story

We Started With a House, Not a Plan

The GLO Project was founded in 2018 as The GLO House, a children's home in Cape Town, South Africa. As our awareness of the needs around us grew, so did our understanding of what it truly means to support a child. Food insecurity, unemployment, and cycles of poverty couldn't be addressed by love alone. We needed to get creative — and we did.

In 2021, we purchased a 7-acre farm in Scarborough, a small village in the Western Cape province about 45 minutes from central Cape Town. What started as a way to more affordably feed the kids in our care quickly became something much bigger: a circular economy that is transforming our community.

Today, we no longer house children — but we serve far more of them while addressing the underlying cycles that keep them trapped in generational poverty. We are the GLO Project.

What We Believe

Our Values

We Invest in People, Not Just Positions

Our staff are seen not only as professionals, but as parents, partners, and community members with futures worth cultivating.

We Create Pathways, Not Transactions

We want the people we serve to move beyond being recipients — to step into ownership, leadership, and generational change.

We Practice Radical Accessibility

Sliding-scale pricing ensures resources meet people where they are, removing barriers to participation.

We Prioritize Those With the Greatest Need

Our programs and partnerships are intentionally designed to uplift the families and communities most often overlooked.
